Fabrizio Di Pasquale, full professor at the Institute of Mechanical Intelligence and head of the Photonic Sensing Integrated Systems area, was a guest of the Universidad Técnica Federico Santa María in Valparaíso, Chile. The visit took place as part of the REDES project 'Control of mechanical vibrations based on fibre-optic sensors', in which Di Pasquale is participating together with Chilean researchers Héctor Ramírez and Marcelo Soto, alumni of the Scuola Superiore Sant'Anna.

During his stay in Chile, Di Pasquale visited the Advanced Centre for Electrical and Electronic Engineering, AC3E in Valparaíso, and held two seminars aimed at academics and students. The seminars aimed to provide basic concepts on fibre optic sensing, with a focus on its applications in different industrial sectors, and to highlight how integrated photonic sensing technologies enable high-volume markets and hostile environments, such as automotive, energy and aerospace.
